House Sitting in Midway





The kids and I are housesitting in Midway, Utah for Aunt Kathy and Uncle Jim for a few days. We get to take care of 4 dogs, which the kids are absolutely thrilled about. Dad got some dog treats for the kids to give to them and they couldn't wait to give them to their puppy friends. We got here on Friday morning, just in time to see a procession of fire trucks, which completely excited the kids. Then we got to the house and immediately gave the dogs their treats and went for a walk.
This has definitely been a weekend of many firsts for me, as I am not used to taking care of "inside" dogs. However, it's been a lot of fun, too. Roger came up for a little while and we got to go to several yard sales in the valley. This is always fun, but this was an especially fun weekend because Ryder got a "new" bike and the kids got "new" fishing poles. The bike and both poles are all pink. However, Keira has indoctrinated Ryder into thinking that Pink is his favorite color, so he is quite pleased. Roger already has big plans to get the auto shop kids to paint the bike a very manly color.
This was the best weekend to come up to see all of the fall colors, so we took advantage of that and took some family pictures in a canyon. Hopefully a few turned out...I'll post them when we get them. Then we took our new Barbie fishing poles to a pond and went fishing. The poles are nice and small and just the right size for the kids. We didn't catch anything, which is the norm for us, but had fun trying.
Grandma Snow got to come visit and she watched the kids that evening while Roger and I went on a date on the Heber Creeper (Heber Valley Railroad train). It took us around the valley and then stopped so we could have a BBQ dinner and listen to some live bluegrass music. Not bad for a weekend of housesitting!

Your kiddos are so stinkin cute. I can't believe Keira is old enough to go to preschool. Crazy how time flies.

Christmas in Missouri

We got to spend Christmas at my Mom and Dad's new place in Everton, MO. We had a great trip. As we drove back into Ogden, Keira asked if we could turn around and go back to Grandma and Grandpa's in Missouri. The kids had a great time playing with their cousins, checking cows and going to the Handi Hut with Grandpa, and eating popcorn with Grandma in her theater room. Taking a cold walk through the fields looking for baby cows. We didn't find them. One of the favorite things to do was to go through Grandma's dress up box and dance to a Barbie Movie. Ryder was extremely proud of his beautiful outfit.

Good News!

I have some great news I want to share!  Last week marked the beginning of the 4th month of Chemo. Because I had passed the half-way point, a new blood test was taken to see where my cancer markers were.  This is done to make sure that the chemo is doing its job.  The cancer marker test for Ovarian Cancer is the CA-125 test.  A normal range for CA-125 is below 35.  When I was first diagnosed, my score was 668.  After surgery, right before I first round of chemo, my score had dropped to 194.  As of last week, my latest score is a whopping 32! I haven't actually talked to my oncologist yet...I just pulled this score from my lab report online. When I was in the hospital following surgery, an oncologist came to visit with me and told me that the best outcomes happen when the CA-125 test is in the normal range at the half-way point of chemo.  That is what I have been praying and hoping for and I'm so relieved to see that it has happened! I look forward to talking to my oncologis

NICU

Savanna completed her routine bilirubin test the day we were to be discharged from the hospital. However, rather than getting the news that all is well and going home, we learned that her levels were critically high and that she would need to go straight to NICU. She had a positive Coombs test, which meant that her high levels were a result of a blood incompatibility between me and her. There were a few options on the table to treat her, including doing a blood transfusion. They opted to treat her with as many phototherapy lights as possible and see what happened that night. If her levels didn't go down w/in 12 hours, they would probably do the transfusion. Luckily, her levels dropped out of the critical zone that first night. Her levels have been dropping more slowly now and she remains in NICU. She has been a real trooper during this time. Apparently, most babies hate the phototherapy lights because they can't be held and have to stay in there 24/7 and they cry all day
